LOSING @ WIMBLEDON , WHAT WAS UP WITH SERENA ? ROGER FEDERER GOES FOR HIS EIGHTH WIMBLEDON CHAMPIONSHIPS AND OTHER TIDBITS BY LOU FULLER

Getting into the Wimbledon singles draw is the measurement we all use for success in tennis. It’s the pinnacle. The singles draws are made up of 128 players. Losing is always hard to deal with. But a loss at Wimby. Oh it hurts. It doesn’t matter that you leave with a heap of British sterling it hurts.

If you lose first day. It’s a big ouch. Losing in a slam before lunch time or tea time. Big ouch. Where can you hide for the next two weeks ? Losing in any slam hurts. It’s just magnified. All the pre match rituals. Pressures. Stresses. Plans.

By the end of the first round. There’s 64 players. Time to leave London. ( unless you are in the doubles ) We knew a Wimby winner that for years if he didn’t win he would get the first plane out that night or the next morning before daylight.

We know a former champion who never packed up. Just basically checked out and let his people pick up his Nike clothes and Wilson equipment. Actually he was such a princess I’m not sure he packed either to travel from California to London . I think his “people ” did that too .

Now let’s talk about the Diva named Serena Williams. She for sure took her loss hard. Ok. We got that part. Then what happened? Middle Sunday couldn’t have helped. It was too much time between her singles loss and her doubles match ? Was she pub hopping ? Was it one pub ? Where was she ? What was she doing ? Where was her coach ? Hey boyfriend? Jill ? Venus ?

The Serena that showed up to play either had a hangover or was still feeling the effects of her loss. Was she doing an impersonation of Lindsay Lohan ? I’ve played loaded. I looked like that. Her hair was disheveled , No headband. No base make up. No eye make up. Completely like a clone showed up.

She couldn’t catch the ball. Or Bounce the ball and Venus was ignoring her. ( in the warm up ) Yes , I’ve seen four double faults in a row. Poor Jamie Murray playing with Andy years ago in Indian Wells against Xavier Malisse and Alex Dogopolov. But in Serena’s case the ball bounced before the net and didn’t register for the speed gun. All the announcers were polite and concerned and confused. Martina Navratilova said it was all just wrong.

Serena sent out a few instagrams in one she is resting and then the other one she is under a blanket. With the word that she is playing in her next scheduled event. No health crisis .

Going back to that losing thing and how much it hurts. The round of 16 players all feel like they will make the famous Final 8. Then it’s the semis. Wow. Out of 128 players now we are down to the 4 best. Ok. The finals. Now it’s the most painful loss because you came the closest. We are hoping that Roger cruising past Milos in straight sets 6-4,6-4,6-4 saved him lots of energy. We are hoping he has plenty in his tank to win this Wimbledon. Sorry Mr. Idemooo and formerly known as Mr. Bounce Bounce. But we are for Roger Federer ! For Roger Federer Family man it means the Papa of 4 will win his 8th Wimbledon.
