Global attendance in excess of 431,000 fans through the gate has left Indian Wells Masters organizers pleased with their site expansion which brought a second showcase stadium online in less than a year from groundbreaking to first ball hit.

Fans have poured into the desert venue for this edition, with tournament CEO Raymond Moore well pleased. “It’s been phenomenal, beyond our wildest dreams, every player, every spectator that’s been there,” said the South African.

“It’s wonderful (new) stadium, because it is totally custom designed for tennis. The spectators are close, the players like it, the acoustics are good, all the things we added, the video screens, earlier shade on their court on days for when it gets hot.”

Moore could confidently report that he had heard nothing bad from any of the tournament constituents: We haven’t had any negative feedback, none at all. Of the 8,000 seats, 6,000 are free (seating). People love that. It’s a general admission ticket, anybody can go there. The 2,000 seats in the lower bowl are specific reserved, paid tickets.”

Moore said that restaurants headed by lead tenant Nobu which were built into the new stadium had done record-breaking business during the tournament fortnight. “The three restaurants were just slammed, I think that the restaurateurs were pretty surprised. We took them through it before the event started, but I don’t think they believed us. But after the first weekend they believed us.”
