On Wednesday in Shanghai, Novak Djokovic won his ATP best 14th bagel set of year in his 6-2 6-0 win over Marcel Granollers. . . The frequently injured Rafael Nadal on his longevity: “For the last five years, seems like lot of people talking like I will not be able to play long the way that I play. But I am here again with 27 years old ‑ and a half almost ‑ and I really hope to have the chance to be here for a lot of more years. So still in my mind Olympics in Brazil [in 2016]. Is something I really want to arrive there in good conditions.” . . . Novak Djokovic says that while tennis is slow to change but likes who is running the men’s tour: “I think the new leadership of the ATP, unfortunately not with us anymore Brad Drewett, has been much better in terms of finding solutions and finding a mutual understanding with players. But it’s still a long way from what we try to do, what we plan to do.” . . . The French Tennis Federation and the opponents of the Roland Garros expansion are bogged down in minutia, with the opponents leaving a recent meeting of the monitoring committee of the modernization project because their requirements for performance monitoring committee “were not immediately met.” . . .

Sam Stosur had high praise for the 16-year-old Swiss, Belinda Bencic, whom she bested in Osaka and practiced with last week. “I think she has a good game and is a smart player – she hits the ball very well when she’s in position and she anticipates very well.” . . . Angelique Kerber can become the eighth and final player to qualify for the WTA Championships if she reaches the semis of Linz this week, or the quarters of Moscow next week, which for her would mean only one win as she will have a bye. For young American Sloane Stephens to qualify, Kerber would have to fall short of those arks and Stephens would need to win Linz this week and Luxembourg next week. . . Juan Martin Del Potro has a high fever, which caused him to pull out of his doubles match with Carlos Berlocq after he bested Philip Kohlschreiber in Shanghai.
