Swiss tabloids have been having a field day with a report in Blick that Martina Hingis, her mother Melanie Molitor and her mother’s longtime partner Mario Widmer, attacked the soon-to-be-divorced husband of the former player at the couple’s home in Switzerland, stealing his passport and causing minor injuries.

The shocking police blotter report was quickly picked up in French-speaking Switzerland after the report of the attack on show jumper Thibault Hutin, the French husband whom former champion Hingis is divorcing.

Hutin told Blick his side of the story: “On Monday night, I was in our apartment when it rang at the door. Martina and her mother Melanie Molitor were there and they started hitting me. Obviously, my upbringing prevents me from hitting women. I resisted as I could. Mario Widmer also hit me in the head with the DVD player.”

Hingis and Hutin have been separated for some months after reports of infidelity from Hingis which led to the pending divorce.

Hutin told Blick that once the altercation ended, he then discovered his passport and credit cards were missing from the flat in Feusisberg, south of Zurich on the lake. He went to a precinct with officers returning and forcing the Hingis family to give back his property, the report adds.

Blick reports that cantonal police confirmed the story, which they called “a violent incident that we could solve on the spot.”

According to the report, Hutin also said he had received a threatening text message and said that someone had tried to sabotage his car in its garage. “They wanted to kill me, I’m shocked! I never thought it would go so far,” Hutin was quoted as saying.” Blick said that he has since moved to a hotel and will return to his former home in Paris as the messy divorce case drags on.
