US Open 2013 Has Big Balls - By Lou Fuller  |

Yup. The US Open has really big balls. You know the kind every kid wants. They want the super sized balls  because they are perfect to try to get an tennis players  autograph on. They are fun because they are the ” it gift “. The ” must have ” . The “coolest ” thing they ever saw….  The ball retails at the National  Tennis Center  for $45.00 !  Yes. That’s right. 45 bucks for the best promotion item on the site. Hello …  They should sell them for $9.99 … A similar ball at Tennis Warehouse sells for $20.00. … That being said I’m not so far off on selling them at cost … Grow this sport please. Seems like the “undertakers ” are ruining the sport with the high prices.
The ticket prices are crazy high. Last year at the Barclays year  end championship in the 02  arena a nice seat ten rows from the court ran 50 pounds early in the week. Day or night you got two matches per session at 50 pounds a seat. The US Open  grounds pass is more than that ? Sponsors are supposed to cough up the players prize money. It should not  come from the fans. Tennis in NYC is mostly public parks. The place should be packed. The prices are simply too high at most tourneys. The US open especially.
I have been a member of the USTA since the old days. It used to be called the USLTA ! The ” L” stood for lawn and  they said the grass was long gone …. Ok. I guess they have their point ? But for me the “L” stood for LOGIC ! Or maybe LOVE. But I forgot never fall in love with tennis or a tennis player because in tennis love means nothing………
