Mason, Ohio – In another surprise from the Western and Southern Open, #4 seeded Agnieszka Radwanska has withdrawn from the tournament due to family reasons. She had beaten Vesnina 6-0, 6-2 today and was scheduled to face Li Na in the quarterfinals.
Radwanska says that her grandfather had passed away last Sunday and the funeral was being held on Saturday. “I’m very sorry that I have to withdraw from the tournament. I am disappointed to not continue with the tournament, especially because of my form so far this week. It was a difficult decision, but I need to be go home and be with my family.”
This gives defending champion Li Na a free pass to the semifinals.
