Wimbledon

Singles – Second Round: (4) D Ferrer def. R Bautista Agut 6-3 3-6 7-6(7-4) 7-5

David Ferrer has clinched the #3 ranking — and it’s still theoretically possible that he could reach #2. Hey, a guy can dream, can’t he?

Singles – Second Round: (13) T Haas def. J Wang 6-3 6-2 7-5

Tommy Haas still has Top Ten chances. Unfortunately, he needs three more matches to earn it — and the second of those has to be against Novak Djokovic.

Singles – Second Round: (26) A Dolgopolov def. S Giraldo 6-4 7-5 6-3

This effectively clinches Alexandr Dolgopolov’s Top 25 ranking.

Singles – Second Round: (28) J Chardy def. J Struff 6-2 5-7 7-6(8-6) 7-6(7-4)

Jeremy Chardy might need one more win to stay Top 25 — and he faced Novak Djokovic next….

Singles – Second Round: G Zemlja def. (29) G Dimitrov 3-6 7-6(7-4) 3-6 6-4 11-9

On a rainy day following another rainy day, this was hardly what the schedule doctor ordered…. But it’s big for Grega Zemlja, who is now on the brink of the Top Fifty. Grigor Dimitrov will be around #30.

Singles – Third Round: (2) A Murray def. (32) T Robredo 6-2 6-4 7-5

A pretty promising Wimbledon for Tommy Robredo, considering…. he won’t make the Top 25, but his Top Thirty spot is secure.

Singles – Third Round: (24) J Janowicz def. (15) N Almagro 7-6(8-6) 6-3 6-4

Nicolas Almagro loses his chance to hit the Top Fifteen — but Jerzy Janowicz, even though he was defending points, is now one win away from the Top Twenty.

Singles – Third Round: J Melzer def. S Stakhovsky 6-2 2-6 7-5 6-3

This isn’t going to make Roger Federer feel much better about losing to Sergiy Stakhovsky…. Jurgen Melzer is now above #35.

Singles – Third Round: A Mannarino def. D Brown 6-4 6-2 7-5

Adrian Mannarino had a brief spell in the Top Hundred a few years back, then returned to obscurity. It appears he’ll be making the Top Hundred again.

Doubles – First Round: (1) Bryan/Bryan def. Demoliner/Sa 6-4 6-4 6-1

The Bryans will be #1 no matter what happens here, and by a huge margin, but they haven’t quite clinched the year-end #1 yet. At the rate things are going, it might happen here….

Doubles – First Round: (4) Paes/Stepanek def. Bracciali/Erlich 7-6(8-6) 6-4 6-7(1-7) 6-4

Here’s another case of a guy who retired from singles doing just fine in doubles. A side benefit is that it keeps Leander Paes within reach of the Top Ten.

Doubles – First Round: Levine/Pospisil def. Dlouhy/Ram 6-2 6-4 6-1

Doubles – Second Round: (6) Lindstedt/Nestor def. Schwank/Zeballos 6-1 7-5 6-3

This still doesn’t guarantee that Robert Lindstedt will stay Top Ten, but it improves the odds a little. We currently show the Top Ten as follows:

1..(1) Bryan………….12550

2..(1) Bryan………….12550

3..(3) Lopez…………..5550

4..(4) Granollers………5550

5..(6) Soares………….4990

6..(7) Bhupathi………..4955

7..(9) Peya……………4910

8.(10) Bopanna…………4750

9..(5) Lindstedt……….4240

10.(11) Paes……………4090

Doubles – Second Round: (12) Dodig/Melo def. Bednarek/Kowalczyk 7-6(7-2) 7-5 6-4

Marcelo Melo still needs one more win to defend his points, so his Top Twenty spot remains shaky.

Doubles – Second Round: Cabal/Farah def. Ratiwatana/Ratiwatana 3-6 7-6(7-5) 3-6 6-3 6-4

Mixed Doubles – First Round: Knowles/Lisicki def. Bhupathi/Hantuchova 6-7(2-7) 6-4 6-4

Amazing. Mark Knowles came out of retirement for this, and he beat Mahesh Bhupathi, who used to be the world’s #1 Mixed player?
