The Serbian Tennis Federation announced Monday the host city, venue and playing surface for Canada’s upcoming Davis Cup by BNP Paribas semifinal tie against Serbia. The tie will be held from September 13-15, 2013 at the Kombank Arena in Belgrade, Serbia on a temporary clay surface.

“We’ve been very fortunate to have four straight ties at home where we have picked the conditions that best suit our team,” said Miele Canadian Davis Cup team captain Martin Laurendeau. “We are now in a situation where we have to travel to Serbia and play in their environment and in conditions that favour them. That’s the nature of Davis Cup. Our team will spend the next several months preparing for those conditions to the best of our ability and, while we know that this is an extremely difficult team to play, we are also confident in ourselves for having reached the semis and we will bring everything we’ve got with us to Serbia.”

Stadium capacity for the tie will be 15,500 seats with ticket prices and on-sale dates still to be determined by the host nation. The players for both teams will be selected by their respective captains 10 days prior to the tie.

Canada will be playing in its maiden semifinal after defeating Spain and Italy earlier this year to advance to the final four. Prior to this year, Canada had lost in four other World Group opening ties (1991, 1992, 2004, and 2012). The Serbians defeated Belgium and the USA to book their spot in the semifinals. Serbia won the Davis Cup championship in 2010. This will be the first tie between the two nations.
