The 2013 Australian Open marks the sixth consecutive year that the grand slam event has selected Plexipave’s Plexicushion Prestige surfacing system.

Plexicushion is selected because of its ability to provide consistent playing characteristics. The surface allows world-class players to compete with a variety of playing styles while enduring the hot, dry summers of Australia.

“Plexipave is an excellent surface for players of all levels,” said Craig Tiley, the Australian Open tournament director. “It is well suited to the dry climate of Australia and requires no watering or daily maintenance. Plexicushion is a great surface because the consistent ball bounce allows the player to concentrate on the ball not the surface and play for extended periods because of the resilient surface composition.”

The signature Australian Open colors, “True Blue” and “Velocity Blue” developed specifically for the tournament in 2007, are distinctive and enhance ball visibility for players and spectators. Plexicushion’s “True Blue” has been a significant part of Tennis Australia’s commitment to reinvigorate Australian tennis. Centers throughout Australia and Asia Pacific have installed Plexicushion.

The Australian Open lead up events in Auckland, Qatar, Sydney, Hobart, and Brisbane also compete on Plexicushion Prestige. Plexipave is also used at ATP and WTA Tournaments such as Delray Beach, and Indian Wells.
