Tennis accident victim Sergi Bubka, boyfriend of women’s No.1 Victoria Azarenka, is said to be improving from an accidental fall from an upper-level Paris flat a month ago.

The No. 186 journeyman tumbled from the ledge of a friend’s flat in an upscale neighborhood of the capital after finding himself locked in a bathroom and trying to make his way on a ledge to an open window.

Eurosport reports the 25-year-old son of a former champion pole-vaulter of the same name has begin walking again after six hours a day of intense physiotherapy and is also working in a swimming pool to regain his mobility.

“The circumstances leading to the fall were all so unlucky, but since the accident I feel I have been really lucky,” said the Ukrainian. “I was lucky to be alive and not have damaged anything major. I was lucky my friends found me and took me to a great hospital where they took great care of me.”

Bubka went under the surgeon’s knife for nine hours at the Georges Pompidou hospital but has no memory of the fall which almost cost him his life.
