Germany has put aside the Davis Cup intra-squad spat which resulted in the resignation of captain Patrick Kuhnen last month, with former player Carsten Arriens appointed to take over the squad in time for February’s Davis Cup first-round tie with Argentina.

The German side has been in disarray all season after the refusal of Philip Kohlschreiber to play for the team after what he felt was a slight from Tommy Haas regarding his conditioning. When Kuhnen, at the helm for a decade, refused to get involved earlier this year, Kohlschreiber didn’t bother to play.

But the arrival of Arriens may calm the waters. The 43-year-old had a modest career on the ATP from 1991-1999, claiming one Tour title. Since 2002 he’s been a coach for the German federation.
