A spectacular day in Queens for American men as Rhyne Williams, Bobby Reynolds, Tim Smyczek, Bradley Klahn and Daniel Kosakowski all advanced to the 3rd round and find themselves a match away from the main draw.

Rhyne Williams picked up from where he left off yesterday when he dispatched the #7 seed from Canada, Vasek Pospisil, with a convincing straight set win over Agustin Velotti from Argentina. The 21 year old Knoxville native and former Tennessee Volunteer with face Peter Gojowczyk from Germany in the 3rd round.

The #30 seed Bobby Reynolds got past a game James Duckworth in three sets and will face Sergio Gutierrez-Ferrol (ESP) who defeated the top seed in this bracket Michael Berrer in three sets too.

Tim Smyczek continued his crisp play defeating the #21 seed and 131 ranked player in the world Dustin Brown to advance to a third round match with the #3 seed from Lithuania, Ricardis Berankis. Berankis needed three sets for the second straight day to defeat Amir Weintraub and seems poised to be upset.

Bradley Klahn despite his ranking of 485 continued to make the most of his wild card entry and defeated Marco Trungelliti of Argentina in straight sets. He will face the #9 seed Florent Serra tomorrow who also has reached the third round without dropping a set.

In what was the match of the day Daniel Kosakowski outlasted #2 seed and the 82nd ranked player Aljaz Bedene in three sets in a match which nearly lasted three hours.

After splitting the first two sets by 6-3 marks the third set started with each player breaking each other’s serve in 4 of the first 5 games. After a doctor’s break for Bedene he consolidated his break to get to even. Each player would serve and Kosakowski suvived the tiebreaker to advance to the deciding Friday match against Hiroki Moriya.

Moriya, with an ATP ranking of 229, ousted the #30 seed American veteran Wayne Odesnik in three sets for the opportunity to face the resilient Kosakowski.
