US Open Qualifier Report – Day 2 – Men’s Draw

The 1st round is in the books and here are the remaining American men as well as the surviving seeds from the 1st two days of play.

 

The biggest upset of the opening round was American Rhyme Williams ousting of #7 seed Vasic Pospisil of Canada handily in straight sets (64 63).

 

Of the 8 remaining American players in the qualies 4 are wildcards.

 

(373) Daniel Kosakowski defeated the Dutchman (249) Jesse Huta Galung in straight sets to get the right to play the #2 seed and currently 82nd in the world player Aljaz Bedene from Slovenia. Kosakowski hails from California and was the 2011 Pac-10 Freshman player of the year while playing for UCLA prior to turning pro shortly after that.

 

Bradley Klahn, the former Stanford standout, also won his opening match in straight sets over (206) Diego Junqueira of Argentina.

 

18 year old Mitchell Kreuger from Aledo, Texas took advantage of his wild card with a convincing straight set win (63 63) over the #23 seed and 141st ranked player in the world Martin Alund.

 

Tennys Sandgren (that is his real name) needed three sets (63 67(3) 75) to get past his opening round foe, Franco Skugor (CRO) and draws the #31 seed Guido Pella from Argentina.

 

The other three Americans who advanced to the second round are #16 (135) Wayne Odelisk, #30 (149) Bobby Reynolds and (179) Tim Smyczek all winning in straight sets.
