Li Na continued to crush the competition in her French Open title defense Thursday, needing just 52 minutes to get past Stéphanie Foretz Gacon, 60 62, and move into the third round of the clay court Grand Slam. The No.7-seeded Li won the first nine games against Foretz Gacon and ended with almost three times as many winners as the French veteran, 14 to five.
Fifth-seeded Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is one match win away from advancing to the Last 16 for the third time after he completed a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over Cedrik-Marcel Stebe of Germany on Thursday in Paris. The match resumed at 1-1 in the third set.

Tommy Haas is showing that over-30 tennis can thrive in today's game, with the German using his experience to advance at the French Open. The 33-year-old father of an 18-month-old daughter and ranked No. 112 said there is no reason he cannot continue for a few more seasons as well.
Venus Williams refused to indulge in any form of self-pity as her dubious fitness, compromised after being diagnosed last September with Sjogren's Syndrome, contributed to a second round French Open exit. The five times Wimbledon champion who began the year at 134 in the world rankings after the fatigue-inducing autoimmune disease hugely affected her playing schedule, has never won the French Open.
