FAMILY CIRCLE CUP PLAYER FIELD COMPLETE

The 2012 Family Circle Cup singles player field has been officially provided to the tournament by the WTA. The main draw contains players from 24 countries, and is highlighted by six former Cup champions, including Samantha Stosur (2010), Sabine Lisicki (2009), Serena Williams (2008), Jelena Jankovic (2007), Nadia Petrova (2006), and Venus Williams (2004).

The Family Circle Cup announces 40Love: A Night of Empowerment Celebrating 40 Years of the Family Circle Cup, a special evening presented by Dove, featuring a reunion of the Original 9, including Billie Jean King and first-ever Family Circle Cup Champion Rosie Casals.

You have to reach at least the semifinal to earn any points. After all, that's the way it works in practice for the top players anyway.

Novak Djokovic will be #1 whatever happens here, but he's doing a good job of adding insurance points. This should have been the toughest of the second round matches, but Roger Federer handled it easily, which is promising. The loss means that Feliciano Lopez will not rise above #15 -- although there isn't much chance that he will fall.

The ITF today announced a shortlist of ten players to receive the first four Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Heart Awards of 2012. Awards will be presented in four categories based on performances in the Fed Cup World Group and World Group II first round ties, and the three Zone Group I events at the beginning of February.

The top half of the draw in Dubai went completely according to seed today and is likely to do so right up to the final, unless Berdych somehow gets to Murray. The big Czech has lost just 7 games in 2 matches and holds a 3-1 career record against Andy, but he won't be able to save 11 out of 12 break points against the Scotsman as he did today against Lukas Lacko.

Okay, so Djokovic has been out of the game for nearly a month and comes back whipping everybody’s butts. But, he has some very, very dangerous competitors knocking out opponents as readily as he is. On Wednesday the 28th Djokovic overcame No. 74 Sergiy Stakhovsky 7-6⁵, 6-3 in the tournament’s second round.
