Federer Wins Fourth Career BNP Paribas Open; Azarenka, 23-0, Has Longest Winning Streak on WTA Tour Since 1997

[CHICAGO – March 19, 2012] – Wilson players dominated the BNP Paribas Open’s men’s and women’s finals with record wins by long-time Wilson player, Roger Federer, and WTA no. 1 Vika Azarenka. Federer, playing with Wilson’s new Pro Staff, has now taken his third title in the past five weeks. This is his fourth career title at the BNP Paribas Open. Azarenka, playing Wilson’s new Juice with Amplifeel, is now 23-0 for the year so far, having won her fourth straight title of 2012, including her first Slam at the Australian Open.

“It just doesn’t get any better than this,” said Jon Muir, general manager, Wilson Racquet Sports. “We have two great players, both with new racquet models this year that are already stacking up big titles. Roger is on fire, continuing to demonstrate his commitment to win. Vika is entering her own commanding phase on the WTA side with this amazing momentum. We are incredibly proud of Roger and Vika.”

Federer beat John Isner handily in straight sets, 7-6 (7), 6-3 and is 21-2 for the season. He outplayed Isner and controlled his big serve throughout the match after beating Nadal yesterday in straight sets as well. Today’s victory gives Federer 19 Masters 1000 titles

Azarenka continued her perfect season, easily winning 6-2, 6-3 over Maria Sharapova. She ruled the baseline, preventing Sharapova from gaining any kind of consistent rhythm, quickly establishing her fast pace for the match. With her 23-0 season, this is the best start since Martina Hingis went 37-0 to open 1997.

L to R: Roger Federer, with his Pro Staff, defeated John Isner 7-6 (7), 6-3; Vika Azarenka, with her Wilson Juice, beat Maria Sharapova 6-2, 6-3.
