A matured Andy Murray sat in front of the media today at his first press conference this afternoon. The Scot touched on his Olympic plans as well as the impact new coach Ivan Lendl has had on him. While the legendary Lendl is not currently traveling with Murray to the BNP Paribas Open, he will be with him in Miami. They spent 10 days together in Miami leading up to Dubai and was pleased with how much on court time they’ve shared. After Miami, they’ll travel together for roughly seven straight weeks leading up to the French Open.

Murray was asked specifically asked about what Lendl has done to enable him change his forehand and turn it into more of a weapon. He claims that if you watch what his old forehand used to look like versus what it looks like now, it’s certainly different. Murray seems to have matured and believes that having Lendl around makes him stronger mentally and a lot calmer on the court these days.

“When you look at it, it’s very different, in terms of the way I’m moving my feet (talking about the changes he has made). This week I’ve been hitting it really really well, which has been good so hopefully I can keep it up this week… I feel like I’m hitting my forehand much better…

He also stressed improving the shot (forehand) because it’s probalby one of the most important shots during the upcoming clay season.

Everyone’s ears picked up late in the press conference when veteran tennis guru Vic Braden complimented Murray for consistently making positive changes in his game/career and what achievements he’s garnered so far. Murray is a victim of negative press time and time again about “what he hasn’t done”. Murray then responded with a smile to Braden’s comments by talking about his childhood career and how he never thought he’d get to the level he is at now. But the Scot also says he’s not satisfied and wants more success upon arriving to where he is, I believe we all know that comes in the form of a Slam title or the top ranking.
