First Mirka had to dust the red clay of frebourg off of her man. Then being a player herself she went into the usual… Including in this case why the clay court was so damn awful… Layed so poorly…… Planned so poorly……
Could you ask Nureyev to dance on a stage with nails and splinters anything but perfect conditions? And playing at an altitude of almost 2000 feet above sea level those balls bounced so high (especially Isner’s serve). It was truly amaze balls. What was severin luhti thinking even planning on playing Roger Federer for three days in a row. Or even facing Andy Roddick’s serve had he played? Boy that’s taking a friendship over the line of reasonable.
Next Mirka packs up the traveling family roadshow and off they go to Rotterdam. Richard Krajicek and his entire staff was thrilled to see them. He is a huge fan of RF and his tourney is fantastic. The Amro is in it’s 39th year! Roger and the traveling family show did more than show up. They won!!! That’s Amazeballs coming off of that Davis cup debacle. (not for the USA)
The good news is it wasn’t one of those tourneys where you had to be packed and ready to go right after the trophy presentation…. sometimes right from the courts, mad dash thru traffic and terminal runs are normal weekly job requirements… airports…… With all their gear. Clothes for two seasons on three or four.
This time as Roger told us this morning in his CONF. call interview from Doha to talk about the BNP Paribas Madison Square Garden exo.
Roger said he got to relax and enjoy his win in Rotterdam and even had a nice leisurely morning before packing up his twins and off they went into the the travel mode again. Packing. Checking in airports. Flying all over the world. Unpacking and settling in.
Sorry there’s no supersonic to make it all so much easier. Concorde travel was fun. Geezer came back on British Air Concorde in 1978? Connors and Martina Navratilova were both aboard….. oh well maybe more supersonic soon…. Small jets. Mid size jets. And the big boys.
I wish I could start everyday with a brief phone call with Roger. The sky seems a little bluer. There’s more bounce in my step. I’m hearing the birds singing….
I’m remembering just how awesome Roger was in Rotterdam!
