Potito Starace was sick last week, and it may have affected him in Davis Cup, but it looks as if he is finally getting over it.

Jeremy Chardy’s ranking is high enough that he probably could have gotten direct entry here. But we’ve seen hints before that he doesn’t really know how to manage a schedule.

David Nalbandian has suffered so many injuries lately that is he ranked not much ahead of Benoit Paire. But he showed in Davis Cup that he still had game; this match may have been slightly less close than the score.
Singles – Second Round: (4) T Bellucci def. R Mello 6-0 1-6 6-3
Thomaz Bellucci adds a few points, but not enough to make any difference — and he obviously had a very tough, and very late, match.
