Singles – First Round: (4) I Dodig def. M Ilhan 7-6(7-5) 7-5
Ivan Dodig is the defending champion, and he needs more than this to stay Top Fifty. The organizers weren’t really very nice to him, forcing him to play five days in a row to defend his title….
Singles – First Round: G Zemlja def. A Veic (WC) 7-6(7-5) 7-6(8-6)
This doesn’t really tell us much about Grega Zemlja’s form, but he has an outside shot at the Top Hundred this week. This alone won’t do it, of course.
Singles – First Round: D Sela def. A Beck 3-6 6-3 6-2
Andreas Beck has clawed his way back into the Top Hundred, but this will leave him still below #80.
Singles – First Round: G Garcia-Lopez def. D Evans (Q) 6-4 1-6 6-1
Guillermo Garcia-Lopez is defending semifinalist points — and, given his current ranking, semifinalist points matter. So this is a good sign, if a very slight one.
Singles – Second Round: M Berrer def. (1) I Ljubicic 6-4 6-4
Another bad week for Ivan Ljubicic. He loses his chance to return to the Top Thirty. Michael Berrer obviously loves this place — but he still needs two more wins to defend his finalist points.
Singles – Second Round: J Melzer (Q) def. (5) A Seppi 6-2 6-3
Despite Andreas Seppi being a seed and Jurgen Melzer a qualifier, this is not an upset; Melzer came in at #41, Seppi at #42. There is a chance Melzer will return to the Top Forty; it becomes a certainty if he wins his next match. Seppi loses his Top Forty chance.
Singles – Second Round: (7) R Haase def. M Bachinger 7-6(7-4) 3-6 6-3
Robin Haase has lots of room to add points, so this ought to move him above #60.
Doubles – First Round: (1) Melzer/Peya def. Haase/Rojer 6-3 6-4
Interesting that Jurgen Melzer played with Peya rather than Petzschner here. It’s as if Melzer knew he would be facing Petzschner in the singles….
Doubles – First Round: Bracciali/Rosol def. J Delgado/Marray 6-7(4-7) 7-5 10-8 (Match TB)
Doubles – First Round: Baghdatis/Youzhny def. Knowle/Kohlmann 6-4 5-7 10-5 (Match TB)
Doubles – Quarterfinal: Karlovic/Moser def. Draganja/Skugor 6-3 6-2
