Grigor, just a sensational performance, congratulations.

Thank you.

You hit the ball absolutely beautifully.

Yeah well it’s one of these days, you have one of these days that every touch gets in, luckily it was one of these days. Mardy was not so on top of his game, but I think we had a great rallies and a bit of entertainment as well. It’s really nice to get a couple of matches before you go to the next tournament and it’s nice to have a win like this under your belt. I had a great feeling on the court.

How did you approach the match because looking at you, you just seemed to be very free in the mind out there and free through your shots.

Yeah well I just try to go out there and enjoy. I’m playing of course against a top ten player, I’ve seen him playing a lot. I just wanted to come out on court and improvise a little bit, hit a few shots and you know make the best out of it. As I said, today was one of these days where whatever you touch everything was in.

And the big crowd here behind out there – there’s a big Bulgarian group here. Is it nice to have some fans this far from home?

Yeah it’s great. I’ve been practicing today on court number one at the back, so everyone gathered and we took a great shots. They are a nice crowd as I said and they were supporting me all the way down, so hopefully we’re going to have a good doubles match now.

You played like you have a plane to catch – that’s how quickly you were moving. Do you have a plane to catch?

Yeah my plane is at 11.50pm so hopefully we do a quick doubles and then off to Sydney.

Off to Sydney and you’re trying to qualify? When do you have to play to qualify?

I’m playing tomorrow unfortunately, so I have to get a run, but you know that’s how it is.

We noticed there Mardy had a few words to you at the end of the match – what was that about if you don’t mind me asking?

Um I think it’s better if you ask him. You know it’s a thing obviously that maybe he wasn’t happy with that, but I’m sorry if I did something wrong. I’m going to also apologise to him in the lockers when I see him, but I don’t want to say much else about it.

Best of luck in the mixed doubles, and best of luck tomorrow on the court in Sydney.
