Hopman Cup Interview with Marion Bartoli  |

5th January 2012

Another very nice performance from Marion Bartoli. Marion thanks for joining us again.

You’re welcome.

Talk us through that match, another very, very comprehensive win for you this afternoon.

Yes well my last match of the year in 2011 was against Anabel and I got injury in my ankle, and it was weird to play against her so early in the season, but I’m really pleased with the way I competed today. It was a good fight. I know I can still improve my level and especially my concentration level when I get the break in the second set, I’m needing a 7-3-1 ball for 4-1, I should have make this one but it’s going to come with match play. I’m really pleased we are leading one-love and all the best for Richard.

We talked about it the other evening – that you look incredibly fit out on court and you’re serving beautifully and moving really well to the ball. That’s noticeable, the way you’re getting to the ball.

Yes absolutely. I’ve been working extremely hard on my fitness level from last year already and it’s just a continuation of it so I’m getting better and better. I hope this kind of level will take me far this year. I had a really good season in 2011, but I want to do better in 2012.

Indeed – still chasing that Grand Slam which is not too far away. This is the Harvey Norman winning moment; it was a fantastic point to finish on. It was a great match Marion, you went for a nice little drop shot just to finish it off with a little bit of style as well.

Yeah. You know I’m playing with Richard in doubles and I get tennis lesson every time because he is just doing this drop volley without even moving to it. So he kind of inspire me at some point. I make her run so much Anabel, I thought maybe a drop shot would be a good play and well it worked.
