Spectacular Tennis Fundraising Event to Be Held in London Saturday  |

London’s Savoy is the site for this year’s Tennis Ball on behalf of the Council of International Clubs.

Thanks to the generosity of everyone who attended the inaugural Tennis Ball in 2009, the organization has been able to support many more much needed programs in the UK and around the world than originally anticipated.

The goal is to improve the lives of disadvantaged young people in the UK and internationally through the sport of tennis.

The Council of International Clubs is extremely grateful to those who came to The Tennis Ball in 2009 and to those who are attending in 2011.

The money which was raised in 2009 provided the catalyst to launch development programs in Vosloorus, near Johannesburg, South Africa and in Leon in the centre of Mexico, both of which are managed by the International Clubs (ICs) of those countries and in supporting an existing program in Addis Abbaba, Ethiopia, which is overseen by the IC of Germany. In order to ensure that these programs are sustainable we insist that the money provided by the Council is matched by funds raised in the country of the sponsoring IC.

With the help of the Banque of Luxemburg we also supported a program in Burundi with equipment which we were able to source from the International Tennis Federation. In addition we are working on setting up a program to be overseen by the IC of India.

The committee is hopeful that as a result of the evening they will be able to extend the number of projects which are designed primarily to give disadvantaged young people the chance of learning to play tennis through which they will acquire self-discipline and skills which may lift them out of poverty.

Two auctions will be held for the benefit of the program. The live auction, to be held Saturday includes vacation stays at an Aspen penthouse, a Mallorca villa, Portugal’s Algarve villa, house in South Africa overlooking the Indian Ocean, plus 4 tickets to the Monte Carlo semis and finals, a shirt and racket signed by Roger Federer and special package to the 2012 WTA Championships in Istanbul.

The silent auction, for which bids are being accepted now, includes such items as
