"Stella Red" Saved The Queens Club

Queens Club. I’m certain the AEGON blue will appeal to me someday… During my years at Queens as a regular at the tournament, I never saw the prominent blue advertisement logo instead it was the famous “Stella Red”. The Stella Artois…The great beer… What a beer from Belgium you say? That’s about as weird as Budweiser at the Irish Derby but both true.

Big Boss and even Geezer loved Stella. Loved the Queens Club. It’s tucked away quietly around a few corners in a corner of London… Never expect to see any taxis in the lovely neighborhood… and especially jetlagged and carrying bags of tennis books you bought from the lovely bookseller… All on a Friday night in London….

Queens is a very exclusive grand old club. Yes once a year they throw a tennis event, the grass warm up for Wimbledon.

Sponsors are smart to use bold backdrops to shout at you in a blink. Ah. Pink or red it’s Stella. Or blue its AEGON. We hear it’s a super company. Most companies that support tennis are. BNP also comes to mind…. I just wish they gave away samples… I just wish I wasn’t confused by all their events with similar sounding names….

Last point: Silly like what was mentioned above but still also true… I need to ask “fashionista” why everything we ever washed from the Stella tournament always: shrunk, bled, or turned everything else pink, it never looked good after first washing… and NO we weren’t drinking STELLA at the time.

Do we love Stella? Yes. Do we love AEGON? Of course. We must never forget that the people with that awful “RED” saved that little Wimby warm-up from extinction….

The only way to describe this U.S. open is soaking wet without raining... It's really hard to play tennis when your socks are soaking wet and you are "sloshing" in your shoes. Your shoes get really heavy when they get wet.
