Xavier Malisse and his first time partner Alex Dolgopolov won the doubles in the 2011 BNP Paribas Open! Ta da! Oh I forgot to mention…. Along the way they kept making tension between brothers … They beat the Bryans and the Murrays! They beat the amazing team of a Pakistani and an Indian. And today they beat the current gold medalist…. That would be Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka! Yes, Roger Federer! …. 10sballs.com’s Big Boss is ecstatic…. Xavier was wearing our new red patch! That should make our suits happy
Our favorite “Lady Gaga,” Bethanie Mattek-Sands, didn’t win in the ladies doubles final…. Bethanie has the heart of a champion…. She was still feeling the pain of the loss of the finals hours later … We wish her oodles of good luck in Miami!
Our day started early on site as usual at the beautiful Indian Wells Gardens… We saw a practice with Caroline Wozniaki. She has a great group of people around her. It’s a small eclectic players guest box that includes the world famous poker player Gus Hansen…(Gus is a fine tennis player. He was interviewed by Tennis Channel and they showed him rallying with Vince Van Patten) Funny because team Adidas are wearing shirts that say, “All in.” Actually I’m wrong. Just found Big Boss’s and it says, “Adidas is all in…” Big boss got one off of team Adidas leader Sven Groeneveld….
Ok… Big Boss also got X-Man’s match shirt … Xavier played all week in the same shirt. Earlier in tourney X sent out six shirts to the laundry and only got back one? … All week it just kept getting hand washed by X man’s coach. … Funny that wasn’t listed under job description … My favorite was the day X’s shirt was wet from washing at the beginning of his match and dry by the end of it…. Oh the desert air …
Max Braeckman is Xavier’s coach; he is a wonderful young Belgium coach with a bright future. He went to “Dog’s ” coach (Jack) and organized the pairing 15 minutes before sign in … So Max’s duties this week beside all the usual was creating a pairing that beat the best and won the event. Bravo Max. More good stuff like that and you’ll be winning coach of the year for 2011.
We look forward to the finals. … Caroline Wozniaki. Nickname “Sunshine” and Marion Bartoli are first up. Followed by Rafael Nadal against Novak “bounce, bounce, bounce” Djokovic. His bouncing prior to serving drives me crazy … 9 times. 11 times…It’s almost 30 seconds of bouncing every time… It’s more than a bit much. It’s down right annoying….
We all wished for a RAFA vs. Rogi final. Coach Gavin was there today to give support but Roger just couldn’t pull off the win … What a pity. Indian Wells loves the great RF and so do we….
The time in Indian wells has flown by. We want to thank all of our” pitch hitter” photographers: Luigi Serra, Adam Fish, Paul Martinez, Dustin Williams, and Andrew Schreiber … You all did an amazing job… Fred and Susan Mullane we missed you….
See you in Indian wells 2012…
