Roger Federer. Rafael Nadal. Yes I’m still stuck on them. What an amazing rivalry. We are so lucky to have such wonderful sportsman representing tennis. But wait. I almost forgot. They are breaking records and streaks back and forth. And to top it off, they both respect each other’s places in history. That’s what I said. We are watching history being made.

That’s singles. Look at the dubs and those twins. The Bryan Brothers broke the record set by Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde also known as “The Woody’s.”

It’s really been an amazing year…and then there’s “sunshine,” Caroline Wozniacki. What a hard working, smart playing chick she is. 10sballs.com loves her smile; her tenacity; her grace and style.

We are also proud of all the tennis players out in the world living the life of “road warriors. ” We all know traveling gets harder by the trip. Tennis players are the finest athletes on earth. In tennis each player has to circumnavigate the globe so many directions, continents, time zones and still be expected to perform almost overnight. Tennis players are in a league of their own. They are out on the court themselves. Doing battle in heat. Extreme heat. Humidity. Dampness. Cold. Indoors. Outdoors. On grass. On clay. On carpet. Under lights. In glares. With colds. With broken hearts when loved ones contact them with sad news from far away…A place called home…tennis players that travel the world are magicians. Navigators. They are resourceful and patient…

You see those TV shows where contestants have to chart unchartered waters…welcome to daily life on tour. Strange languages. Beds. Rooms. Food. Hotels. Events. Housing. Balls…Courts. I’ll stop. But it’s all true and more…

So I guess I can’t end without saying shame on the young brats of Auzzie tennis. Mostly the guys. What happened? Where’s the generation of great competitors and great “mates?” The list is too long to even start…
In the old days Harry Hopman (Hopman Cup) had such depth he could have made five Davis cup squads…”Matso headache” you are not entertaining! Just bad mannered and annoying! You’re not Andrew Ille…much more Ille Nastase in you.

So young crop of Auzzie talent behave like the hundred years of champions that have played for the green and gold before you. Let them be proud. Too many mates acting like divas.

Louise Pleming is a great tennis brain. Great combination. Hello to Brent Larkham and the whole Larkham family. Brent and Todd were second or third generation Auzzie champs. Brent is one of Australia’s best coaches. More hellos and shout outs next column…

The only way to describe this U.S. open is soaking wet without raining... It's really hard to play tennis when your socks are soaking wet and you are "sloshing" in your shoes. Your shoes get really heavy when they get wet.
