Super toe break? No…that’s what I had! Super tie break? Some “suit” came up with that (they must have had a 24 pack of Corona!). How can the O2 arena display some of the finest tennis seen all year or even in years, allow professional men’s doubles scoring to be “no ad?” What’s that Gussy Moran asked? I tried to explain, but it all seemed odd to her. Me too…and to add insult to injury by not playing a third set or more…”no ad.”
In the USA College tennis tried the “no ad” scoring for over ten years and found it factored in the element of LUCK too much. So how does it end up in ATP pro tennis? Only the suits know…
10sballs.com thought the old days of three out of five sets was too rough for doubles especially since so many singles players played both. The Woodies, Nestor, Knowles, Mirnyi, Bhupathi, and even Roger Federer. The point is, men’s scoring needs fixing. We will settle for two out of three regularly scored sets just like the rest of the world plays. These doubles guys work so hard. They are such finely tuned athletes that deserve better than LUCK factoring into the outcome of a match.
Re: Barclays ATP World Tour Finals…big congrats to all the lucky players to make the end of the year finals.
We also congratulate all the players crisscrossing the nation playing in each other’s charity tennis events. Pete Sampras was busy with Justin Gimbelstob who was busy with… Trust me. They are all busy. Great efforts!
There’s a big charity event tomorrow…the Sam Querrey and John Isner event. Check it out on our homepage (Click Here). We applaud you all.
10sballs.com wants to congratulate our British team for all their great reporting from the ATP Barclays World Tour Finals too…
Out of corona? Oh no! I knew something was missing while I was watching the Davis Cup today…Great tennis is still being played. Can’t wait to see the doubles tomorrow.
Congrats to first time dads this past few months: Nicolas Kiefer and Tommy Haas. Big congrats! Sorry we missed mentioning. Funny both guys are coached by one of the best and nicest coaches on tour…Thomas Hogstedt.
Ok, if I’m getting nostalgic. One of the nicest guys ever on the tour in any capacity, player or manufacturer rep, it’s Martin Mulligan…Marty Mulligan of FILA clothing. The same Marty Mulligan that was almost Rod Laver’s “spoiler” on his way to a slam. To a grand slam…10sballs.com and Marty go back to ” back in the day.” Bjorn Borg days…
Borg makes me think of Lennart Bergelin. But I’ll save that for another day. Watch the Davis cup on the Tennis Channel. Hopefully the cable company will put the channel on regular package deal instead of higher end sports plan. Tennis is for everyone. Anywhere. It’s the port for these stressful times. It’s good for networking; good for meeting and greeting new people thru leagues; mixers; etc…I have spent more than half a century living the life. What life? Have racket will travel. Why?
TENNIS.
