It was turkey day in America. So to all the US players in UK, enjoy where you are. And all you transplants from the world that have homes and families in Florida…enjoy where you are. You are at our Superbowl…our sports championship playoffs. How lucky. How fun. Great $. Points. Perks. Gifts. Meet and greets. Visits with dignitaries…wow!
10sballs.com has various people to mention that are helping make the event special for the players. We already mentioned the great Charlotte Stone. But we forgot to mention Norman Bunyard. Dear Norman is a fixture at Wimbledon, but he is now also a presence at the O2 Arena! He is a true friend to our sport and to the players on whose behalf he looks after.
10sballs.com saw one of our special buddies Max Mirnyi and Mahesh Bhupathi lose a close match to Nestor and Zimonjic. It was a great match and really close. I’m just bothered by the doubles scoring. College tennis eliminated the no ad scoring after years of using it because they realized luck played to big a factor in the outcome of the match. So how did it end up in pro tennis… Those suits again… The reality is that at least for the year-end championships play regular/normal scoring should be used in the doubles. Gonna leave the third set alone for the moment…
Spoke to Judge Robert J. Kelleher today. Past president of the USTA. Past Davis Cup captain. Inducted into of the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport Rhode Island. And father of “open tennis,” which brought the pros back into the sport with $$ for everyone and titles/entire second careers for a bunch of guys that paved the way to today’s super tennis events. What a lucky guy! We discussed that he has seen every great player since Tilden and players of that day till today!
So he has seen the golden age of tennis. The judge. A great player himself. Grew up in Forest Hills, New York. He was probably Pancho Gonzales’ best friend…and only referred to him as Richard Gonzales. Judge Kelleher had a vision to bring $$ to the true open tennis era. When a professional players could play with amateurs. That’s the reason there was such a gap in the years Gonzales, Laver or all the greats names weren’t in the record books under grand slam winners… The judge really made the biggest impact in tennis in my lifetime. Bravo! He will always be remembered as a true loyal friend of the game. Happy Thanksgiving!
Calling all lovers of Corona beer…enjoy the tourney. Enjoy the brew/pint. Send a six pack to the camera crew. Or did you already?…
PS: My right hand man, Omar, asked how come I hadn’t mentioned Corona light… We chose it to go with our Thanksgiving meal. It was great. The light fresh less filling feeling we wanted to go with our two thousand calorie dinners…
