2011 BNP PARIBAS Open To Feature Hawkeye Replay On All Match Courts  |

The BNP Paribas Open, the most-attended tennis tournament in the world outside of the four major events, to be held March 7-20, 2011 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, will become the first tennis tournament in the history of the game to feature Hawkeye replay technology and video displays on more than three courts when all match courts are outfitted for next year’s event, it was announced this week by Steve Simon, tournament director.

While most tournaments feature Hawkeye replay technology and video displays on one, two or three courts, none have made it available on eight match courts. The tournament will also be upgrading their video displays throughout the grounds – the Stadium Plaza video display will showcase feeds from three match courts, the Village Court and the Garden Club displays will feature feeds from two match courts, and information towers will be located at all three entrances and next to the practice courts, making it possible for fans to stay in touch with the action even when they are away from the courts.

“There is a reason the WTA players voted the BNP Paribas Open as their favorite Premier level tournament, and that is because they continue to improve the event every year,” said defending champion Jelena Jankovic. “Adding Hawkeye and video boards to all the courts creates a level of equality for all players, regardless of the court they are competing on.”

“The BNP Paribas Open is one of the cornerstones of our calendar and has always given a great focus to both the players and the fans. Adding Hawkeye to all the match courts will create an enhanced experience for both. It’s tournaments like the BNP Paribas Open that help move our sport forward,” said Stacey Allaster, Chairman and CEO of the WTA.

“This is a great addition to the BNP Paribas Open, and one that I am sure all players on the ATP World Tour will be excited about,” said top-ranked American Andy Roddick. “Hawkeye is one of the best advancements in the game in recent years, so making it available on all courts will create consistency, and is something we hope more tournaments embrace in the future.”

“Hawkeye is an important officiating tool and greatly enhances the tennis experience for fans and players,” said Adam Helfant, ATP Executive Chairman and President. “We think it’s fantastic that the BNP Paribas Open has made this commitment to bring Hawkeye to all eight match courts and look forward to seeing it in March.”

In addition, daily tickets for the two-week ATP World Tour Masters 1000 and WTA Premier event will be on sale tomorrow. Daily tickets range in price from $10 for the first Thursday evening session to $85 for loge seats on the final weekend. New ticket products include the City of Indian Wells’ Super Sunday City Package, where a final grandstand ticket is only $35, and suite seats have now been added to the very popular daily double package, which provides the same great seat (suite, box or loge) for both day and evening sessions. Also, anyone who prints tickets at home can register to win an “Indian Wells Getaway Weekend.”

Fans can also participate in the BNP Paribas Open 30 Day Ticket Giveaway, which begins tomorrow, Wednesday, November 3, and runs through Tuesday, December 3, 2010. By logging onto www.bnpparibasopen.com and registering, fans will have the chance to win a variety of daily tickets each day ranging from classic box seats to luxury suite seats to loge or grandstand seats. Last year more 35,000 people entered to win during this promotion.

“Our goal is to make the BNP Paribas Open the best tournament in the world for players and fans alike,” said Simon. “Becoming the first tennis tournament in the world to add Hawkeye and video displays to all eight match courts means the event will be the most accurately officiated tournament in the history of tennis, while also enhancing the court-side entertainment for the thousands of fans that support the event each year. In addition, offering a wide variety of ticket pricing, creative promotional opportunities, and flexible purchasing options, ensures that we are making the event as fan-friendly as possible.”
