Tennis has taken a back seat this week for world no.4 Andy Murray as he performed best man duties, dressed in the traditional kilt in the tartan of his own clan, at his doubles playing elder brother Jamie’s wedding in their Scottish home town of Dunblane.

Jamie tied the knot with his girlfriend of two years, Colombian student Alejandra Gutierrez. But world no.4 Andy wouldn’t have been able to practice even if he wanted to after suffering a freak injury while battling out a game of Pro Evolution soccer on his Play Station.

Murray was taking on his friend and acting coach Dani Vallverdu when the injury occurred. Writing on his own website he reported: “Aagh! I just lost one match to Dani at the new Pro Evolution and I think I broke my hand!”

He is expected to recover in time to defend his title at next week’s Valencia 500 but the 24 year-old Scot has learned a lesson. “Icing the hand – time to grow up Andy!” he wrote.

A friend of the Murray brothers said: ““Everyone knows how much Andy loves to win – and his loathing of any defeat. He’s the same whether it’s a computer game or the real thing. Golf, tennis, football, basketball, he just hates losing and we all have a mental picture of him going crazy with the controls trying his best to beat Dani.”

Meantime there has been something of a game of musical chairs in British the British doubles playing fraternity. Colin Fleming, a former partner of Jamie Murray who earlier this week announced the end of his partnership with Ken Skupski, will next season play alongside Ross Hutchins who up to now has been an occasional partner of Andy Murray.

Skupski could be playing in tandem with Australian Jordan Kerr who has also partnered Hutchins in numerous events this season. And next week in Valencia, the two Murray brothers have accepted a wild card entry into the doubles competition.
