It is no wonder Andy Murray and Caroline Wozniacki are both smiling – by winning the US Open Series, they have earned themselves the equivalent of a winning lottery ticket.

As the series winners, they are both in line for a $1million bonus should they go on to win the title in Flushing Meadows – and that would net them a cool $2.7million in all. Not bad for a summer’s work.

Murray picked up his US Open Series trophy by winning the Toronto Masters (and beating Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer as he did so), and by reaching the final in Los Angeles and the quarter finals in Cincinnati. He will get his Open campaign underway against Lukas Lacko on Wednesday

Wozniacki, last year’s US Open finalist, grabbed the women’s trophy after winning the title in Montreal and reaching the semi finals in New Haven. As the top seed in New York, she will start her charge for the title against Chelsey Gullickson on Tuesday.
