Sportimes Clinch No. 1 Seed in World TeamTennis, Host Playoff Tonight  |

It came down to one event — one final game, even.  And Robert Kendrick came through Thursday night, securing first place for the New York Sportimes and the top seed in the World TeamTennis Eastern Division playoffs, which begin today.  Kendrick’s 5-4 mens singles victory over Lester Cook gave the visiting Sportimes a narrow 23-22 win over the Newport Beach (Calif.) Breakers.

By virtue of their first place finish, the Sportimes (9-5) earned a home match vs. the Boston Lobsters (8-6) in the World TeamTennis Eastern Conference Championship.  All tickets for tonight’s 7 p.m. match at Sportime on Randall’s Island, Manhattan, are $10, available through www.nysportimes.com or by calling 212-792-8500.

The winner of the Sportimes-Lobsters matchup will take on the winner of the Western Conference semifinal between Springfield and Sacramento, on Sunday in Kansas City.
