Tri-City Medical Center Named Presenting Sponsor For Mercury Insurance Open Women's Tennis Event  |

Carlsbad, Calif. (June 14, 2010) – Tournament officials announced today that Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, a full-service, acute care hospital, has been named presenting sponsor for the 2010 Mercury Insurance Open. The women’s professional tennis tournament will take place July 31 through Aug. 8 at the La Costa Resort and Spa.

Tri-City Medical Center, which was founded in 1957, serves the healthcare needs of coastal North San Diego County including most of Carlsbad, Oceanside and Vista.

“Tri-City’s mission is to improve the health and wellness of our community,” said Larry Anderson, CEO, Tri-City Medical Center. “Partnering with such a wonderful, international sporting event, in our community, gives us a great opportunity to convey the message to everyone we serve that we are dedicated to helping them lead healthy, active lives.”

A charity event to benefit Tri-City Medical Center will take place on Thursday, Aug. 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. during the Mercury Insurance Open at the La Costa Resort and Spa. The evening will include; cocktails, an opportunity to meet former and current players, a charity auction and admittance to the tournament’s night session.

Proceeds from the event will fund equipment for the Women’s Diagnostic Center at Tri-City Medical Center that provides minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. For ticket information, call (760) 930-7032.

“We are especially thankful to be the beneficiary of the charity auction. The money we raise will help us offer advanced detection and treatment options to the women of our community” Anderson said.

The Mercury Insurance Open, a Premier 700 Sony Ericsson WTA Tour event offering $700,000 in prize money, marks the return of women’s professional tennis to Carlsbad after a two-year hiatus. The event will be televised on the Tennis Channel and ESPN 2, and will comprise one of the 10 events of the Olympus U.S. Open Series.
