Tennis Canada announced Friday the male recipients of the 2014 Tennis Canada Excellence Awards. Milos Raonic (Thornhill, Ont.) has been named Birks Male Player of the Year for the fourth consecutive time. Continuing to grow as an athlete every year, Raonic took the next step in 2014 by making his maiden Grand Slam semifinal, qualifying for the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals, and solidifying his place in the Top 10.

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal headlined an official government reception that doubled as the China Open players' party, hosted at the InterContinental Beijing Beichen on Monday. Nadal and Serena Williams were awarded "best dressed" for the evening.
Novak Djokovic extended his perfect record at the China Open to 21-0 by defeating Vasek Pospisil 6-3, 7-5 on Wednesday afternoon. Djokovic, who is looking to win a fifth title in Beijing, needed one hour and 25 minutes to reach the quarterfinals. He is joined there by John Isner, a 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(4) winner over Tommy Robredo.

Eugenie Bouchard (Westmount, QC) is playing her first tournament since the U.S. Open this week at the Wuhan Open in China. She advanced to the quarter-finals of the WTA Premier 5 event on Wednesday thanks to a 6-2, 6-3 win over American Alison Riske.
Nick Kyrgios' breakout 2014 campaign is over. Citing burnout, Kyrgios withdrew from his remaining tournaments this season aside from the current Malaysian Open. The official draw for the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group Play-off between Canada and Colombia took place Thursday at Province House in Halifax to determine the match-ups for the coming weekend.
