Every tennis season delivers plenty of bizarre moments and 2014 was no exception. On both the men's and women's tours, things happened that had to be seen in order to be believed. For now, however, we'll do our best to describe those wild and wacky happenings in writing.

Roger Federer and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga were hardly more than innocent bystanders during the first day of Davis Cup final action in Lille, France. At least Federer had an excuse, coming off a long week at the World Tour Finals that ended when he had to pull out of the title match against Novak Djokovic due to a back injury. Tsonga, on the other hand, simply got outplayed by Stan Wawrinka.
Swiss Davis Cup Severin Luthi faces an anxious few days in the build up to this weekend’s final against France in Lille. Not only is he waiting to see if the back injury that ruled Roger Federer out of playing in yesterday’s title decider at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals responds sufficiently to treatment.
