American women have claimed eleven titles at Wimbledon over the past fifteen years. Ten of those titles belong to women who have the last name Williams and the other belongs to Lindsay Davenport. Maybe it’s the name of the “trophy”.
Now this looks like the Petra Kvitova who won Wimbledon. And she's the only seed left in her half. Make the final and she'll be just below the Top Five; win the title and she's in.
The final Monday of Roland Garros arrived and all of the Americans were gone. There are no US players in the mix at Roland Garros anywhere; not in the singles and not in any of the vast combinations of doubles. The three who remained Monday morning have bombed out.
There is one American woman still standing in the singles competition in Paris. (Actually, she is probably sitting, since it is evening and she played hard earlier today.) No surprise – it’s Sloane Stephens.

Based on current rankings, these seedings should have been reversed -- Sloane Stephens came in ranked #16, Caroline Wozniacki #18. But you would never have known it! And, because Stephens was defending 140 points and Wozniacki only 80, that will reverse -- Stephens will fall to no better than #18, with Wozniacki probably #17 and with the chance to go higher.

Federer improved to 18-2 this season with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Kevin Anderson in the quarterfinals of the BNP Paribas Open on Thursday night. The world No. 8 will go up against Alexandr Dolgopolov in Saturday's semis.
