The first Tournament (Shenzhen China 25.K) was a great experience and being far away from @Wimbledon where the roots of tennis mean so much.
At least Ana Ivanovic didn't get her blood pressure checked. She took a timeout during the match, but it was to have an existing abdominal strain re-taped. She still produced a quality match, coming back from a 4-1 deficit in the first set before struggling in the last two.
Ernests Gulbis and Julien Benneteau will face each other for the third time this season on Saturday in Kuala Lumpur after scoring respective quarterfinal victories on Friday. Gulbis got past Benjamin Becker 6-3, 7-5. Benneteau, the Malaysian Open runner-up in both 2012 and 2013, outlasted Pablo Cuevas 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-4.
Eugenie Bouchard (Westmount, QC) is playing her first tournament since the U.S. Open this week at the Wuhan Open in China. She advanced to the quarter-finals of the WTA Premier 5 event on Wednesday thanks to a 6-2, 6-3 win over American Alison Riske.
Nick Kyrgios' breakout 2014 campaign is over. Citing burnout, Kyrgios withdrew from his remaining tournaments this season aside from the current Malaysian Open. His swansong did not go well, as the 19-year-old lost an all-Australian showdown with Marinko Matosevic 7-6(4), 7-6(3) during first-round action on Tuesday.
