Serena Williams may have a bad knee, but her head is doing just fine. After struggling against Monica Niculescu in Indian Wells, Serena gave poor Niculescu the full Williams treatment this time. Serena is going to be #1 no matter what, but this obviously puts the rest of the draw on notice. Niculescu will probably be a little below #60.
Well it’s all over for another year, but what a year this was. First of, of course there was Serena. Her come-back was warm, her play in the first match was maybe decidedly lukewarm but it was enough to get her through to the semi-finals...
Despite the drama of at least two of the matches on Friday, the biggest shock was reserved for perhaps the biggest star, as 14 years to the that day, Serena Williams had to withdraw from her semi-final match.

After a 14-year hiatus, Serena Williams made her return to the Indian Wells Tennis Garden last night, welcomed by a full-house crowd that showed its love for the World Number 1 by waving signs and banners and screaming out her name over and over. Those who doubted whether Serena would be welcomed here immediately had those doubts quashed.
It is good to bury a piece of the past when it has not been good to you. With the help of some 14,000 people on a balmy night under a desert sky at Indian Wells, Serena Williams let go of 14 years of hurt and found love instead.
They cheered as one as she walked into the stadium, she tried to lift her as the nerves seemed to play their part on a rightly momentous occasion, but as always it was on Serena’s racquet to sign off on a Friday the 13th to remember.
