Tennis stars Heather Watson, the British No.1, and India’s Sania Mirza joined celebrations at Birmingham’s Cannon Hill Park yesterday.
The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) today announced that India’s Sania Mirza will rise to the WTA World No.1 doubles ranking on Monday, April 13. Since the WTA doubles rankings were introduced on September 10, 1984, Mirza is the 33rd player to reach the top doubles ranking, the first from India and fourth from Asia, to do so.
This was as close as it looks; the two Czechs were hitting hard and well. But Petra Kvitova has a huge edge in big-match experience, and perhaps it showed.

Roger Federer's appearance in the International Premier Tennis League was short but sweet as he joined the Micromax Indian Aces to treat the New Delhi fans to enjoyable, entertaining action on Sunday and Monday. Federer played six sets--the maximum three in each of the two matches--and won five of them.
The word around the tennis world is that Roger Federer is being paid a cool $4 million for the briefest of stays in New Delhi to play for the Micromax Indians Aces in the ongoing International Premier Tennis League.
Now that Roger Federer has won a Davis Cup winners’ medal and pretty much won everything there is to win in tennis life, he can afford to kick back and relax, yes? No it would appear not as he gears up to make his debut for the International Premier Tennis League.
