Windy conditions and an in-form Peter Polansky gave Lleyton Hewitt plenty of trouble during first-round action at the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship on Tuesday, but the 33-year-old Australian persevered for a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 victory after two hours and four minutes.

Defending champion John Isner is the top seed for next week's Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship at River Oaks Country Club April 7-13.
Andy Murray got off to a really slow start -- a sign of his lack of a coach, perhaps? At least he managed to pick up his game. He'll need a lot more that this to avoid falling to #8, though. Matthew Ebden added only a few points, but that may well be enough to take him above #65.
The Bryan Brothers were back to their usual reliable form in securing the doubles point for Team USA against Great Britain in the Davis Cup first round tie this weekend. Bob and Mike Bryan, taking to the court with the USA trailing 0-2, delivered the first point of their team with a 6-2, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 win over the British Davis Cup duo of Colin Fleming and Dominic Inglot.
The score makes this look closer than it was -- Roger Federer lost only three points on serve (he won 94% of first serve points, 92% of second serve points). Ivo Karlovic did pretty well on serve, too, but you knew he was doomed if it came to a tiebreak. For a guy who wasn't sure he would play, Federer certainly looks solid...
Twelve matches down. Ten to go? That's right; seven days into the BNP Paribas Open, Roger Federer and John Isner boast an incredible combined record of 12-0. They are both 6-0; 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles.
