The 2018 Australian Open draw ceremony was held on Thursday night at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena. It was less chaotic than it might if been Andy Murray and Kei Nishikori had not withdrawn from the men's field, but there was still plenty of intrigue with several players seeded lower than usual due to injury-plagued inactivity.
Switzerland won the Hopman Cup for the third time when it beat Germany two matches to one on Saturday evening.

No one could have anticipated Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer to finish No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in the ATP World Tour rankings at the end of 2017--and with a lot of room to spare, too.

The last time Marat Safin played a match on the ATP World Tour was in the second week of November in 2009 (lost to Juan Martin Del Potro at the Paris Masters). At that time, Roger Federer was No. 1 and Rafael Nadal was No. 2 in the world.
