Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal landed in the same half of the BNP Paribas Open bracket when the draw ceremony was held on Tuesday afternoon. On the other side, Andy Murray and Kei Nishikori are in the same section while Novak Djokovic is on a quarterfinal collision course with David Ferrer.

The Golden Swing is supposed to be the laughingstock of February, where relatively obscure clay-court grinders vulture ATP points to boost their rankings to inflated, some might say undeserved levels. Last week's tournament in Rio de Janeiro, however, did its best to steal the limelight from the hard-court swings in Europe and the United States.
Rafael Nadal came up the winner but was far from pleased with scheduling procedures at the joint ATP-WTA Rio Open after completing a quarter-final win in the wee small hours of 3:21 a.m.

All four quarterfinal matches went the three-set distance on Friday at the Rio Open and the result was nearly the latest finish in ATP tournament history. Rafael Nadal and Pablo Cuevas did not even get on the court until after 1:00 a.m. because Fabio Fognini's 6-4, 6-7(10), 7-6(9) victory over Federico Delbonis lasted three hours and 12 minutes.
Rafael Nadal continued his trek through the Rio Open draw when he took care of Pablo Carreno Busta 7-5, 6-3 during second-round action on Thursday. Nadal saved both of the break points he faced in the second set to finish the job in two hours and one minute.

Rafael Nadal, who lost to Tomas Berdych in the Australian Open quarterfinals, returned to his winning ways with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Thomaz Bellucci in round one of the Rio Open on Tuesday. Nadal dropped serve twice in the opening set without saving a break point, but he raised his level in the second to finish the job in one hour and 31 minutes.
On the eve of the Rio Open presented by Claro, Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer experienced what it is like to be part of one of the biggest spectacles on earth, the Rio Carnaval. Not even the heavy rain that hit Rio de Janeiro on Sunday stopped the party plans of the top two seeds.
