A new era in Australian men's tennis is soon to be upon us--if it's not already here. At 33 years old, Lleyton Hewitt's career appears to be coming to a close. Meanwhile, the other end of the career spectrum is ushering in teenagers Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis.
It did not take long for Roberto Bautista Agut to begin his Most Improved Player of the Year campaign in 2014. Roger Federer's appearance in the International Premier Tennis League was short but sweet as he joined the Micromax Indian Aces to treat the New Delhi fans to enjoyable, entertaining action on Sunday and Monday. Federer played six sets--the maximum three in each of the two matches--and won five of them.

The battle to be the leading Australian player by the time the Australian Open begins is heating up with just seven ranking places separating Lleyton Hewitt, Nick Kyrgios and the resurgent Bernard Tomic who slipped way outside the world’s top 100 after Wimbledon but is now back up to 56th position.
Tim Henman opened his 2014 Statoil Masters Tennis account with a 6-7, 6-4 10-8 win over Swede Thomas Enqvist at the world famous Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday. Henman rushed to the net at every opportunity, taking time away from his flat-hitting opponent. It was a clash of styles that delighted the 3000-strong crowd.

Nick Kyrgios was awarded Australia’s top tennis honor, the prestigious Newcombe Medal, at a gala celebration at Crown Palladium in Melbourne. In receiving the award the Canberra tennis ace was formally recognized as Australia’s most outstanding tennis player in 2014.
Aussie teen Nick Kyrgios will establish a base in London, and is looking to break into the top eight next season. Having reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon, Kyrgios is now looking at buying a house in the area to use between tournaments. Most Australian players have a second home, finding it impractical to return Down Under frequently during the season.
Nick Kyrgios' breakout 2014 campaign is over. Citing burnout, Kyrgios withdrew from his remaining tournaments this season aside from the current Malaysian Open. His swansong did not go well, as the 19-year-old lost an all-Australian showdown with Marinko Matosevic 7-6(4), 7-6(3) during first-round action on Tuesday.

Nick Kyrgios will get top billing in Arthur Ashe Stadium on Saturday night at the U.S. Open. Perhaps CBS officials called for even bigger names during the day, and they got them. Joining Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray in third-round action are familiar foes John Isner and Philipp Kohlschreiber.
The first full day of men's second-round action at the U.S. Open will take place on Thursday. Among those in action are former champions Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, who are still on a collision course for the quarterfinals. Djokovic is going up against Paul-Henri Mathieu while Murray is facing Matthias Bachinger.
