The Australian Open men's singles quarterfinal lineup is a blockbuster one, with seven of the top eight seeds still alive and the only impostor a local Aussie who has positively ignited the Melbourne crowd. The stretch run begins on Tuesday, with Rafael Nadal going up against familiar foe Tomas Berdych and Andy Murray hoping to stop the freight train that is Nick Kyrgios.
Australian opinion is divided about Nick Kyrgios as the 19 year-old prepares to face former Wimbledon and US Open champion Andy Murray in a bid to become the first home semi-finalists at the year-opening Grand Slam since Lleyton Hewitt ten years ago.

When Rafael Nadal comes out of a funk, he really comes out of a funk! Hard to believe he could still lose the #3 ranking to Kei Nishikori. Of course, if he keeps playing like this, he won't lose it. He leaves Kevin Anderson still at #15.
There is something in the air… could it be that the Aussies are about to turn a corner in their tennis fortunes since the glory days of Lleyton Hewitt, Pat Rafter, Mark Philippousis and even Pat Cash?
Second seed Roger Federer led fellow tennis elites Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray into the second round of the Australian Open on Monday's opening day with a crushing 6-3, 6-2, 7-5 defeat of Lu Yen-Hsun. It was a day that will not soon be forgotten Down Under. Six Aussie men advanced to the second round on day one at the Australian Open, and four did it in five sets. One way or another, Thanasi Kokkinakis, Nick Kyrgios, James Duckworth, Marinko Matosevic, Bernard Tomic, and Sam Groth found the winners' circle on Monday at Melbourne Park.
Nick Kyrgios was the most featured man in Melbourne on Day One of the Australian Open. His face featured on the front page of the top selling Herald Sun newspaper and his image is integral to several marketing campaigns.

In this era when there are so many hot prospects to talk about -- Kyrgios, Thiem, Coric -- Jiri Vesely has tended to be forgotten. Maybe it's time that changed. At age 21, he was playing in his first-ever final -- yet he dominated his much older opponent, showing no hint of nerves.

A day after Melbournian pessimism reigned over the Australian Open hopes of Nick Kyrgios, the player’s coach Todd Larkham maintained things aren’t quite so bad as his player maintained. Kyrgios underwent a day of scans and examinations to his injured back and leg after losing to Jerzy Janowicz in the first round of the Apia International in Sydney.
Nick Kyrgios joined fellow Aussies Sam Groth, Marinko Matosevic and Pat Cash at the Apia International Sydney players’ party before getting down to business on the tennis court. Juan Martin del Potro, Fabio Fognini, Philipp Kohlschreiber and Eric Butorac were some of the other players in attendance.
Snagging one of the 32 seeds at a Grand Slam has its benefits. Most importantly, you cannot meet another seed until at least the third round. Garner a top 24 seed and you're guaranteed to avoid the likes of Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal until no earlier than the last 16. A seed does not, however, entirely exempt you from danger.
Nick Kyrgios is reported to be ‘shattered’ after his hopes of playing the Australian Open were plunged into doubt after injuring both his left knee and back in Sydney’s Apia International.
