Nine times French Open champion Rafael Nadal has fallen to the no.7 spot in today's Emirates ATP World Tour rankings, his lowest position for more than a decade. However with the start of Roland Garros less than two weeks away, the former world no.1 tried to put on a brave face following his emphatic final defeat at the Mutua Madrid Open by Andy Murray.
Andy Murray had a simple explanation for his new found ability to win clay court titles. "Marriage works," wrote the Scot in the long-time requisite signing of the television lens following his stunning victory over Rafael Nadal to win the Mutua Madrid Open title to silence 16,000 of the Spanish tennis icon's adoring fans.
Partly due to injuries, partly to poor play, and partly due to the luck of the draw, there has been a surprising halt to the Andy Murray vs. Rafael Nadal rivalry.
