This is about as good as it gets when it comes to a pair of 500-point tournaments. Roger Federer will play in front of home fans as the No. 1 seed at the Swiss Indoors Basel, where Rafael Nadal’s comeback from a wrist injury and perseverance through appendicitis will continue.
Unsurprisingly, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer experienced very different fates at the Shanghai Rolex Masters on Wednesday. Struggling with appendicitis upon his return from three months away due to a wrist injury, Nadal lost his opening match in straight sets to fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez. Federer almost bowed out as well despite being a heavy favorite against Leonardo Mayer, but the Swiss saved five match points and survived in a third-set tiebreaker.

Marin Cilic joined Stanislas Wawrinka as a new major champion by triumphing over fellow first-time slam finalist Kei Nishikori 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 at the U.S. Open on Monday evening.

Though the big-hitting Canadian lost to Kei Nishikori in a fourth-round match which lasted until a record-equaling 2:26 a.m. on Tuesday, Raonic has been making an impression with the colorful sleeve he has been wearing since Miami six months ago.
Well, that wasn't quite the night session that had taken place 24 hours (or less!) earlier.
