This means he won't be returning to #4 this week -- he'll be no better than #6. Novak Djokovic will stay at #1; indeed, in light of the next result, his chances of being the year-end #1 are getting a lot better.
Milos Raonic, clinging on to the possibility of making the top eight for the ATP Finals in London, finally worked out a way to beat Roger Federer in the quarter-finals of the BNP Paribas Masters here, winning a tight struggle 7-6, 7-5.

Andy Murray's late-season surge officially has him in the World Tour Finals after the Scot rolled over Grigor Dimitrov 6-3, 6-3 in the third round of the BNP Paribas Masters on Thursday afternoon. Murray, who is 20-2 since the U.S. Open with all three of his 2014 titles coming this fall, cruised into the Paris quarterfinals and set up a showdown with world No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
Russian tennis star, Maria Sharapova and boyfriend Grigor Dimitrov confirmed their participation for the XXII edition of the 2015 Mexican Tennis Open held in Acapulco from February 23-28. While Dimitrov will be back for seconds after winning the men’s field in 2014 against Kevin Anderson, this will be Sharapova’s first time playing in the famed Mexican resort town.

That was Tomas Berdych's analysis of Novak Djokovic following the Serb's ruthless performance in a 6-0, 6-2 beatdown in Sunday's China Open final.
Novak Djokovic captured his fifth China Open title in as many tries and improved to 24-0 lifetime at the event by hammering Tomas Berdych 6-0, 6-2 in Sunday's final. At the Rakuten Japan Open, meanwhile, fans went home happy after witnessing a much more competitive match.
23-0. Five finals. Four titles and counting. That's Novak Djokovic's record in Beijing. He said after this match that it was a lot of work to win most of the points, but still, he won them. He'll be going for his fifth title here on Sunday. And he's improving his chances for the year-end #1, although that isn't sure yet.
The two U.S. Open finalists are having no trouble where they left off in New York. Champion Marin Cilic is through to the China Open quarterfinals and runner-up Kei Nishikori has advanced to the last eight in Tokyo. Cilic took care of Joao Sousa 6-3, 6-3 on Thursday, while Nishikori got past Donald Young 6-4, 7-6(4) in his quarterfinal match.
Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal headlined an official government reception that doubled as the China Open players' party, hosted at the InterContinental Beijing Beichen on Monday. Nadal and Serena Williams were awarded "best dressed" for the evening.
