The good news delivered by the United States contingent in the Rogers Cup first round was turned upside down on Wednesday. Americans compiled a 4-1 record heading into the last 32 of this Masters 1000 event, but all four winners went down in their second matches. It was not, however, due to a lack of effort.
The official draw for the 2014 Rogers Cup presented by National Bank in Toronto was conducted on Friday and hosted by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor at Queen’s Park.
Rafael Nadal will return to London this November in an attempt to capture his first career season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals title. Nadal joins three-time champion Novak Djokovic as the first two singles players to qualify for this year’s season finale, to be held at The O2 from 9-16 November.
Six Wilson Players Make Final Eight at 2014 Wimbledon
Friday at the All-England Club could have been a natural passing of the torch, with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic both going up against 23-year-old challengers. Instead, the Wimbledon final will feature a familiar matchup between Federer and Djokovic.

Has anybody ever been more enthused to see anyone other than Rafael Nadal on the other side of the net against Federer?
Only one champion remains in the women’s draw as two Czech lefties Lucie Safarova and Petra Kvitova will face each other in the semi-final. Kvitova owns the head to head 5-0 but they have had some humdinger of matches.
Most of the buzz in the tennis world on this last Wednesday of Wimbledon is about the men who have bowed out in the last few days. Great Britain’s hopes for a repeat of last year have been dashed. The man who was a winner then was the first British champ in 77 years.

It won't be quite as manic of a second Monday this time around at Wimbledon. Three men's third-round matches have not yet been completed, so only the top half of the draw will be making its way into the fourth round. Both Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray are bidding for quarterfinal spots.
Third-round action begins on Friday at Wimbledon with the side of the draw featuring Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray but suddenly lacking David Ferrer. Among those also in action are Grigor Dimitrov, Alexandr Dolgopolov, Tomas Berdych, and Marin Cilic.

Spots in the round of 32 will start being handed out on Wednesday at the All-England Club. Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray are among those back in action, while Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Ernests Gulbis could have tough matches on their hands.
