Ok so perhaps you can forgive a little liberty with the quote but what a staggering day of tennis...
After the rollercoaster of emotion yesterday as Maria Sharapova closed the curtain on Flavia Pennetta’s career, it was down to the business of concluding the final round robin sessions.
We wake up, the sun is actually shining as the haze is banished (for a day at least) and magic happened in the first of the last round robins!
It really was one of those days. Would the Czech leftie, in the white and purple, wielding a Wilson please step forward… oh… wait!
The good news is we are edging ever closer to a Singapore Sling. The bad news though was that the first of the ‘scenario’ notes started to circulate.
Well Day 2 at the Sport Hub and still no Singapore Slings, but apart from a little detour into the world of Japanese cuisine, it was an interesting day of chit-chat at the WTA Finals.

A scorching day, for the crowd a dream pairing of the Murray brothers, but would it be Pimms v Champagne on Doubles Day at the Davis Cup quarter-final?
After the obligatory pre-draw and draw press conferences, we finally got down to the business of the weekend. Namely the Davis Cup Quarter-final, as once more this Barons Court in London played host to a bunch of tennis fans.
On a promise of catching a fleeting glimpse of the famous Global Chick, I sauntered to the headquarters of BNP Paribas at Marylebone, strolling past the quite astoundingly large trophy, but like tube-trains passing in the underground, the Chick was gone.
It is time to start casting our peepers over the Atlantic, although some areas in Europe are not quite ready to relinquish their hold on us. But for us the big question is – will Queen of Wimbledon, and quite the dancer at the ball Serena Williams be at Bastad? Read on!
What price the adoration of the Wimbledon crowd? That is perhaps the question that defending champion Novak Djokovic is probably asking himself after defeating Roger Federer for the second time in a row, on the hallowed lawns of SW19.
