The Golden Swing is supposed to be the laughingstock of February, where relatively obscure clay-court grinders vulture ATP points to boost their rankings to inflated, some might say undeserved levels. Last week's tournament in Rio de Janeiro, however, did its best to steal the limelight from the hard-court swings in Europe and the United States.

It's only January, but London can go ahead and starting getting ready for Fabio Fognini. That's right; the volatile Italian is likely heading to the World Tour Finals.

If Juan Martin Del Potro had been in the business of moral victories on Tuesday, who could have blamed him? After all, he had not played in more than 10 months due to wrist surgery. Simply playing a tennis match was a monumental occasion for the affable Argentine.
Move over, Gael Monfils and Coca-Cola! There's a new dynamic duo in town. Serena Williams used the wonders of a "miracle coffee" to overcome Flavia Pennetta 0-6, 6-3, 6-0 at the Hopman Cup on Monday afternoon. As the score suggests, Williams got off to a stunningly slow start before recovering to put the United States ahead of Italy 1-0.

Making a quick turnaround following a semifinal showing at the U.S. Open, Roger Federer will be back in action on Friday when Switzerland hosts Italy in the Davis Cup World Group semifinals. The U.S. Open Series is still a week away, but the ATP Would Tour is heading back to hard courts for the first time since March for the Claro Open Colombia. Meanwhile, the clay-court season resumes in Hamburg with the bet-at-home Open.
One day after Wimbledon, the ATP World Tour will not only return to 250-point action but it will also make its way back to clay. Joining Bastad and Stuttgart--both of which are being played on the red stuff--on the schedule is the season's final grass-court event in Newport, Rhode Island.
